I can’t think how this could be improved.Īs mentioned elsewhere the food is pretty straight forward, we had no complaints. Treats and towels left in the room on arrival, which he loved, and welcomed into a set area of the bar for dinner and breakfast. The Black Bull is definitely dog friendly, the room exits onto the street, so no problem taking him for his business in the morning or the evening. I think there are dog friendly and dog tolerant establishments, those who allow you to bring the pet and charge extra but want you to keep him quiet and invisible. Picked this hotel because it said dog friendly and our pup is relatively new to travel. have enjoyed it, we booked an extra night whilst there. I start this review with some trepidation given the mauling some previous reviewers have had, but since it is pretty positive, I may escape with my digital life ?. Stayed at the hotel on the 3rd Sep so a little late in reviewing. You need more staff that have been trained and a chef who gives you a bigger portion for your money - so you don’t have to go home and get a sandwich. Please don’t list places were we could instead of you or be condescending- this is just an honest review giving an account of our experience. Paying the bill was a complete nightmare too - so bad we were called back to pay more that they hadn’t charged us in the first place. This is a shame because it’s lost revenue for you 14 x your dessert prices. We waited such a long time between the starter and the main we didn’t even bother with a dessert. We arrived at 6.15pm and didn’t get out until 9.15pm. The servers were very polite but their organisation skills very poor. the portions were extremely small and I didn’t think this was value for money at all. The food was delicious though the vegetarian chilli left a lot to be desired. The fire was lit and surroundings were lovely- the scene was set. We were delighted that you could fit us in at short notice for 14 people with our little dog. Pretty poor attitude by the owner when this was clearly spoiling the experience for other diners, who at those prices, were also spending quite a bit! More On leaving I asked the girl who seemed to be in charge of the bar if they usually allowed children to behave as though it were a playground rather than a pub, she said no, but since they had been there all afternoon and had spent loads of money, the owner had said to let it slide. Main problem was at the next table, clearly pissed couple with child of about *, who was skipping and jumping around, shouting and getting under servers feet, to the encouragement of the mother. Menu is somewhat limited being mostly burgers or hot dogs which seems strange for somewhere calling itself a Bistro. a locally brewed stout, very tasty if a bit cold, and expensive at pushing £5 a pint. Service was quite slow, but the only real ale available was. Having booked by e mail a couple of weeks previously, we were told on arrival that the booking was not on the system, and that they were fully booked but would "fit us in".
